Church Clothes

Colossians 3:12-15

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful.

  1. Put Off Wrong Clothes

  • Immorality, Impurity, Lust, Evil Desires, Greed​

    • These things incur the wrath of God.​

    • These should be completely gone from your new way of life as a Christian.

      • Isaiah 66:10 The Robe of Righteousness​

  • Also rid yourself of these: Anger, Rage, Malice, Slander, Filthy Language, Lying, Discrimination.​

2 . Compassion​

  • Tender Mercies, Bowels, A Heart of Compassion

3. Kindness

  • Sweet Disposition - Wine that mellows with age.

  • Is welcoming and melts hostility.

4. Humility

  • Humbleness of mind. Thinking rightly about one's self. 2 Chronicles 35 "I hear you," says the Lord.

5. Gentleness

  • Power under control.

  • Powerful people under God's control.

6. Patience - Longsuffering

  • Macro (Long) - Thumas (Heat) Can't take the Heat?

  • Short-tempered 

7. Forbearance

  • Even though they deserve it, put up with.

  • A characteristic of the Father God, that he withholds judgement waiting for us to grow in Him. "His forbearance."

8. Forgiveness

  • 3 times uses "one another," in case we've forgotten that we are talking about "church clothes.

  • Pardon fashion mistakes.

  • As Christ.

  • The logical result of the previous garments.

  • What makes life worth it.

9. Love

  • Ties it together - Bond of Perfection

  • Differs from War Clothes - Belt of Truth
